From time to time Qualicum Beach Streamkeepers Society is requested to or wishes to comment on issues in the broader community that are relevant to and supportive of our goal of fish habitat protection and restoration.

To express concern relative to the removal of "drainage ditches" from fish protection legislation; the importance of dedicated and available DFO staff locally to support habitat protection and enhancement activities; and the need to have have full revenues from the "salmon stamp" program retained in B.C.

To express concern about an auction item at a PSF fundraising dinner that offered a sturgeon "catch and release" fishing trip.

Letter to Pacific Salmon Foundation
To support the MVIHES application for the 2012 Centre Creek Project in the Englishman River Watershed. This would include the participation of our members in the project.

Letter to the Mayor and Councillors of the Town of Qualicum Beach
To express support for, and suggest changes to, the process on the Select Committee on Environment in order to make it more effective.

October 20, 2011:

Letter to B.C. Minister of Mines, with copies to federal and local government representatives
To express deep concern about the proposed Quinsam Mine expansion in Campbell River and it’s potential impact on fish.

July 11, 2011:

Letter to the Minister of Fisheries & Oceans Canada, Minister of Environment, Canada, and Minister of Environment B.C. with copies to local government representatives.
To express concern about the steady decline in funding.

June 30, 2011:

Signatory to a letter to the Prime Minister of Canada drafted by the Council of Canadians and co-signed by individuals and organizations across the country
To express deep concern about recent cuts to Environment Canada  that would detrimentally affect our national capacity to understand and respond to emerging and existing water issues.

June 24, 2011:

Letter to Canadian and B.C. Environmental Assessment Officers
Re: Proposed Raven Coal Mine. To express concern about fisheries impact and the need for a full, independent panel review.

To support the need to find a solution to the water supply needs for the Nile Creek Fish Hatchery.

Signatory to a letter (along with 28 other organizations) drafted by the Western Canada Wilderness Committee to the Canadian and B.C. Environmental Assessment Officers
To express concern about the proposed Raven Coal Mine and the need for a full independent panel review.

February 14 & 15, 2011:

Letters to the PSF Project Selection Committee
To support the MVIHES projects on the Englishman River including Centre Creek Restoration and a Status Report Project. The support includes active participation by QBSS.

January 28, 2011:

Letter to the Chair of Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Reserve
To support the request for funding a “Social Mobilization Proposal” directed  to the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions.
